Hell Awaits

$666.00

Medium: Oil paint on canvas
Size: 18” x 24”
Muse: Techno DJ Cristobal Pesce

This original oil painting depicts an alluringly androgynous young man with a muscular physique adorned in a complex black harness that crosses over his bare chest in multiple places. The harness is ornamented with metallic rings and chains attached at the arms, neck, and waist - fully restraining him in his current state.

His perceived sins of a debaucherous life manifest into pointed horns emerging from reddish-brown hair, and his eyes reflect hellfire as judgement encroaches.

The background is an explosive blend of vibrant colors that swirl together in a chaotic, fiery hellscape. Molten tones of red, orange, and yellow emanate from the intense heat below, with only a short reprieve of cool blue and deep purple clouds before the flames are reflected again around the figure’s head like a hellish halo.

In a landscape where so many powerful colors collide in a symphony of chaos, the pale figure stands stoically in the foreground, with two fingers raised to his own head and slightly curled, not fully committed to pulling the trigger.

This one-of-a-kind piece depicts the inner turmoil between the allure of suicide versus the threat of eternal damnation.

..............

Artist’s note: “I am an atheist now but I was raised Christian. 20 years later and I still struggle with guilt and apprehension about the afterlife. A rebellion towards organized religion is one of the major themes in my art. I don’t believe that your life on earth determines a spot in either heaven or hell. But on the off-chance I’m wrong... I at least hope there’s techno wherever I end up.”
